| Subject: Just deserts: SPLC makes huge settlement with anti-extremist group it called 'anti-Muslim' Mon Jun 18, 2018 8:24 pm | |
| The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) announced Monday that it would pay $3.375 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a British anti-extremism group that was put on a list of "anti-Muslim extremists." In a statement, the Alabama-based SPLC apologized to the Quilliam Foundation and its founder, Maajid Nawaz. "Although we may have our differences with some of the positions that Mr. Nawaz and Quilliam have taken, they are most certainly not anti-Muslim extremists," the statement read in part. "We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Mr. Nawaz, Quilliam, and our readers for the error, and we wish Mr. Nawaz and Quilliam all the best."
