A Queensland mother has spoken of her fury after her daughter and other students were placed in detention for the height of their school shoes.

Karen Bishop, from Brisbane, told Yahoo7 that her 16-year-old daughter was "in tears" after teachers at The Gap State High School began enforcing the strict uniform regulations that state a shoe's heel must be under 20 millimetres high and no lower than 5mm.

"It's ridiculous to give school children detention for a pair of shoes," she said.

Ms Bishop believes the shoes her daughter has been wearing are fully compliant with the rules and had purchased the same pair of shoes several times before.
