Speaking to Australian media at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where the South Korean brand is showcasing its latest hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle, senior executives from the company confirmed Hyundai isn't just working on enviro-friendly and driverless technology with plans to introduce a "serious" sports car within the next few years.

Hyundai has been rumoured to be developing a flagship machine for a while, having poached a band of high-profile European executives, including former BMW M Division boss Albert Biermann to head-up its N high-performance brand while its chief designer is the the man who penned exotic machines such as the Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo, Luc Donkerwolke.

It has also showcased numerous concept cars that indicate its intention to stretch further away from its cheap-and-cheerful origins, such as the PassoCorte mid-engined machine to the HND-9 luxury coupe that both surfaced in 2013 and as recently as the Vision N 2025 created for the Gran Turismo video game at last year's New York motor show.
