| Subject: The Absurd: "At risk of ignorance if we remove religion from schools" Tue Jul 25, 2017 9:37 pm | |
| Statistics published in Tuesday's Herald indicate that many parents don't want their children to receive scripture instruction during school. This is part of a broader movement in Australian society away from nominal identification with Christianity to nominal identification with "no religion". I say nominal in both cases, because most of our religious thinking is informed, let's face it, not by genuine study but by what the comedians are saying on TV.
Although I can only speak meaningfully for Christianity, the idea that religion is on the wane and our education system should reflect that is painfully misguided and parochial.
