| ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say they have identified five suspects in a string of poaching incidents in Kittitas County in Central Washington.
The case involves the killing of at least eight mule deer and three elk for their antlers, with their carcasses left to rot.
Department of Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Mike Sprecher says the poaching case is "at the top of my list" as the worst he's seen.
Sprecher says search warrants were served on the suspects Monday night. They are from Kittitas and Yakima counties, and are ages 18 to 40.
Sprecher says the suspects face possible charges of closed-season deer and elk hunting, spotlighting of big game, wastage of wildlife, and hunting with the aid of a motor vehicle.
