The Federal Government wants half of the membership of government boards to be women, despite seven departments failing to meet existing targets.

Minister for Women Michaelia Cash used an International Women’s Day speech yesterday to announced a new gender diversity target of 50 per cent across all Australian Government boards.

Each board will need to have a minimum of 40 per cent female representation.

“It is vital the Government demonstrates best practice on gender balance of boards, as we need to lead by example in order to drive change in corporate Australia,” Senator Cash said.
