| Students who change schools several times do worse in literacy and numeracy than their peers and are more likely to drop out of school, with hundreds of NSW schools battling high rates of "enrolment churn."
New research from the NSW Department of Education reveals 54,000 students, or about 7 per cent of all school children in the state, change school at least once during a year. Most move during the school year.
In the first study of its kind, the department's Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation looked at student mobility in NSW government schools, using enrolment data from 2008 to 2014.
