| PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Four college students are suing the city of Providence, Rhode Island, over an ordinance that bans them from living together in a single-family home. The Johnson & Wales University students are joined in the suit filed Tuesday by their landlord, and backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The suit says the rule is an unconstitutional intrusion into students' rights to choose who they live with, and landlords' rights to choose who they rent to. The city council passed the rule in September after complaints about out-of-control partying by students in some neighborhoods. Democratic Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan said at the time that allowing so many students to rent one house was undermining the character of neighborhoods. A spokeswoman for Mayor Jorge Elorza did not immediately return a request for comment.
