| Part sat-nav, part fitness band, Suunto's Traverse smartwatch is for those who get off the beaten track.
The $549 Traverse creates a digital trail of breadcrumbs as you walk, displayed on the watch face. It's accurate to within a few metres, making it easy to retrace our steps when we lose our way. The rechargeable battery is good for two weeks of regular use, or 100 hours of always-on GPS or GLONASS navigation.
While the Traverse can save the day, its Achilles heel is route planning. It doesn't display maps, just a trail, so to plan ahead we used Google Maps via Suunto's MovesCount website and transferred our planned route to the watch via Bluetooth.
