| The Mid West is being reminded it is an offence to keep native wildlife in captivity, after a Kalbarri student brought a thorny devil to school for show and tell.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife collected the lizard after the student’s family discovered it had laid eggs after being taken from the wild near Kalbarri.
District wildlife officer Garth Grimsley said the department are now attempting to incubate and hatch the eggs, but it is unlikely to be successful.
“In the wild the female will lay the eggs in a chamber up to 30cm below the earth's surface,” he said.
