| Some 25 years ago in 1990, Australia was presented with the final report of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody
The findings of that Royal Commission, as confronting as they were, did not adequately convey the individual stories of those who died in custody, many of whom the Royal Commission found had been taken from their families and placed in so-called "child welfare".
If anyone were to read these stories they would be overcome by grief at the tragedy of the lives of those who died, from the moment they were removed from the warmth of their families to the day they died in the usually cold and heartless environments they were found lifeless.
If we were to think about the conclusion of the lives so many of those who were removed and extrapolate to the present day when we are again being confronted by an extraordinary number of Aboriginal entering the child welfare system we could once again imagine those children ending up in similar circumstances to those who had their lives and deaths inquired into in the late eighties.
