A Saudi woman who posted a video in which her husband appears to sexually assault the family maid may face jail under the country's defamation laws, according to a report in a Saudi newspaper.

The footage shows a man and a maid talking in the kitchen. The man then corners the maid and appears to kiss and grope her as she resists his advances.

The unnamed wife secretly filmed the encounter with her mobile phone and then shared it on social media with the caption: "the minimum punishment for this husband is to scandalise him", according to a report in Emirates 24/7 that quotes Saudi newspaper Sada.

The clip went viral in Saudi Arabia, with users divided over the merits of the wife's actions, Gulf News reports. It has since been removed.
