A dead joey, not old enough to leave its mother's pouch, has been stuffed into the letterbox of a senior ACT public servant in a sign tensions surrounding the culling of 5000 kangaroos in Canberra are boiling over.

But images of the offender were captured by CCTV cameras installed at the bureaucrat's property and police are looking for the culprit.

ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell labelled it a "very disturbing incident" and said the public servant had not been the only government worker to become a victim of anti-cull activists.
