| Subject: NBC News launches internal probe of congenital liar Brian Williams' reporting Sat Feb 07, 2015 3:21 am | |
| As the crisis that has enveloped "Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams continued to reverberate throughout NBC News Friday, its president, Deborah Turness, said in a division-wide memo that "we are working on what the best next steps are." Among the steps was the launch of an internal investigation of Williams' reporting. That followed a story in the New Orleans Advocate disputing Williams' account that he had seen a body "float by" in the French Quarter during the network's coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The French Quarter, the newspaper said, had remained "largely dry" during and after the hurricane. On Wednesday's "Nightly News," Williams recanted a story he has long told -- that he was aboard a helicopter in the opening days of the Iraq War that was brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade. An online firestorm subsequently engulfed the anchorman -- who in December celebrated 10 years as "Nightly" anchor -- although Williams has not addressed it on the air since.
