A Bundaberg couple have been fined $227 for not registering their dog.

The only catch is, they don't have a dog.

Dennis Kington said he was confused when he arrived home from a trip away this week and found a letter in his mailbox from Bundaberg Regional Council.

"(The) council's Regulatory Services staff recently inspected your property ....," the letter read.
