| Subject: Via Anarcho-Capitalists' Forum: Larry Ellison hosts pricey fundraiser for Libertarian Rand Paul Fri Oct 03, 2014 11:15 pm | |
| Larry Ellison has a long history of giving large sums of money to presidential candidates. He claims to have been one of Bill Clinton’s largest donors back in 1992, with a sizable $500,000 in funding. In the 2012 presidential race, he gave $3 million to Restore Our Future, a pro-Mitt Romney political action committee.
Next week, Ellison is hosting a pricey fundraiser for Libertarian hero and rumored 2016 Republican presidential front-runner Rand Paul. As usual for Silicon Valley dinners, entry level is $1,500 per person, and the ticket prices go all the way up to $32,000 (which I presume gets you a romantic dinner date on the pier with said recipient).
The senator from Kentucky has been making an aggressive push in Silicon Valley. Last year, Paul told me that he thinks he can turn the traditional Democratic stronghold into a Republican base of support — technologists have just never had a candidate who represented their views.
Indeed, his team is reportedly opening up an office here to see how they can galvanize the latent Libertarian rage. It could potentially get him the momentum he needs to become the Republican pick for president, should he decide to run.
With friends like Ellison, Paul — and the Libertarian mission — certainly have good prospects in Silicon Valley.
