The government agency charged with protecting consumers is in disarray after its boss was possibly sacked and two senior media advisers went on stress leave following the electrocution of a woman by a faulty USB charger.

The Fair Trading Department has failed to issue any of its usual daily warnings on products and services for more than five days since the departure of the senior staff.
