A 9-year-old girl in Colorado who shaved her head to support a friend who is fighting cancer was told by the school not to come back to class without a wig or until her hair grows back. Why? Because it violates the school dress code.

The president of Caprock Academy in Grand Junction is standing by the school's policy..for now. She says the dress code "was created to promote safety, uniformity, and a non-distracting environment for the school's students. Under this policy, shaved heads are not permitted." According to Kamryn's mother and father, they thought shaving her head in support of her friend Delayney was the right thing to do and were in disbelief when the school told their child to stay home.

"I didn't realize that hair was such an important aspect of a child at school. For a little girl to be really brave and want to shave her head in support of her friend, I thought that was a huge statement and it builds character in a child." The school's board of directors is expected to meet tonight to discuss the policy and current situation.
