| A D.C. Superior Court judge sentenced libertarian activist Adam Kokesh to two years probation on Friday for a July 4th. stunt in which he taped himself loading a shotgun in Freedom Plaza.
Kokesh spent almost four months in a District jail, before pleading guilty to carrying a rifle or shotgun, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to the Washington Post. Kokesh also plead guilty to a separate marijuana possession charge.
Kokesh faced a possibility of more than seven years jail time for the combined gun and drug charges. However, Judge Patricia Broderick commuted the year-long sentence to probation, since he followed court orders since his release in November and spent 120 days in prison beforehand. Kokesh must also register as a gun offender, and said he had plans to move to California.
