| Australian Marcus Lee – twice cleared of fraud charges in Dubai – has been refused permission to board an aircraft with his wife to return to Sydney, a final insult after his five-year battle to clear his name.
“This is outrageous," Mr Lee's Australian lawyer, John Sneddon, said on Friday afternoon, after learning his client and Julie Lee had been held for two hours at the airport and told they could not leave the emirate. "It's an absolute farce."
The couple, expecting to arrive home in Sydney on Saturday morning to be reunited with their families, were instead told they needed a clearance from State Security before they could leave. But Mr Sneddon said: "Marcus has obtained all of the necessary approvals. He has done everything by the book. He has visited all of the government departments and has met every legal requirement."
