| Tech companies file thousands of patents every year. Most are small and uninteresting advances on existing technology.
Some, however, are bizarre little gems providing a glimpse of a possible future. Here's a collection of the year's best.
The Google-owned smartphone maker filed a patent for an "electronic throat tattoo" that would double as a mobile microphone, lie detector and digital display.
The small tattoo would capture vibrations from the user's throat and eliminate background noise in phone conversations.
