| The death toll in a powerful storm that ripped across parts of Europe rose on Friday, with Poland taking some of the brunt of the gale-force winds, while other regions cleared up.
Three people were killed when a tree fell on their car in Poland's western Pomerania region. A woman was pulled from the wreck alive.
In Austria, a truck driver died when the storm pushed a bus into oncoming traffic in Salzburg province, and caused a multi-vehicle crash.
On Thursday, police tallied three deaths in Scotland, England and Denmark respectively. Two seamen were swept overboard from a ship off the coast of Sweden. After a fruitless search they were given up for dead. Advertisement
More than 400,000 households in Poland were cut off from the electricity grid. Tens of thousands in other nations were similarly hit the day before, as the storm ground its way into Scandinavia, toppling trees and tearing roofs off buildings.
