| Three of the people poring over a busy beehive in a West Pymble garden were allergic to bee stings.
Homeowner Douglas Bock only remembered a few minutes before his free hive of 5000 stingless native bees arrived from Sydney's Ku-ring-gai Council that he was allergic to bees. So is Mr Bock's partner Elizabeth Wenk and this reporter.
But these bees, a species called Tetragonula carbonaria that occurs naturally in Sydney, are among a handful that do not sting, said Peter Clarke, the co-ordinator of the council's Wildthings program.
