| Brisbane's koalas are again at risk of being "decimated", this time under plans by Moreton Bay Regional Council to build a $125 million bypass near Petrie over the North Pine River.
This map - produced for the Department of Transport and Main Roads last year - shows koalas are active and breeding in the exact area where the bypass is proposed.
Cathryn Dexter, a researcher for Griffith University's Environmental Future Centre, studied 21 sites for the Department of Transport and Main Roads where planned roads and koala habitats intersect in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
