| Subject: Lady Gaga's Applause pops but doesn't wow, as fans campaign against online leak Wed Aug 14, 2013 3:37 am | |
| Vamping on a nagging synth riff, Lady Gaga gets the pulse rate high quickly in Applause while she delivers the verses in an almost stiff, half-spoken manner.
The chorus kicks the vocals higher and faster, catching up to the rest of the song’s energy, and the synthesised drums serve almost as handclaps. Hands in the air isn’t just her request (“put your hands up, make them touch,” she sings) but the likely result.
All good so far for another half radio/half dancefloor hit, just don’t expect to hear something new. Advertisement
If Gaga has some revelatory material coming she’s saving it for the new album, Artpop, for this more pop than art and mostly routine Gaga: electro dance done with verve rather than ultra excitement.
