For many casual observers the response to the Occupy movement that hit first Wall Street and then the rest of the world - including Melbourne - in late 2011 was ''what was all that about?'' But after watching 99%: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film you might just as readily ask, ''What was so hard to understand about that?''

The documentary from New York filmmakers Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites is, in some respects, the clear voice the movement itself often seemed to lack. It paints the Occupy movement as a reasonable and almost inevitable expression of rage and frustration with the inequity that sees 1 per cent of the US population controlling almost 40 per cent of its wealth.
