| Nissan has taken the covers off the space-age electric racer it hopes will take it to victory at next year’s Le Mans 24-hour endurance classic.
It revealed the radical machine at the famous French circuit in the lead-up to this weekend’s 90th running of the twice-around-the-clock sportscar race and now plans to use the next 12 months to further develop its hybrid technology in time for the 2014 event.
The ZEOD RC, which stands for Zero Emissions on Demand Race Car, is a closed-cockpit development of the fighter plane-inspired Delta Wing car it ran last year under Le Mans’ Garage 56 rule that promotes innovative new technologies.
It plans to use the same rule for the racing debut of the ZEOD RC in next year’s race, which introduces new regulations designed around energy consumption that has already attracted Porsche back to the top level of sportscar competition with a new hybrid sportscar it revealed last week. |
