This is essentially an open appeal to all those involved, in any way, with the liberty movement to please stop cutting each others’ freaking throats! Since Ron Paul’s 2012 campaign ended I’ve seen such incredible divisiveness from libertarians of all stripes and, quite frankly, I’m sick of it and it’s really pissing me off. Even the Ron Paul site (which I will not name now, as it seems rather inappropriate) where so many people helped to usher me into this way of thinking back in my early stages has now become little more than a whorehouse full of statists.

To the “half-assed pseudo-libertarian statists” who care about nothing more than getting a legal joint: quit bitching about those of us who chose to take the next logical step and actually read shit about liberty and economics. I don’t care if you don’t like anything else about the ideals of liberty, just shut your mouth, get in the back seat, and ride this liberty movement all the way to your legal weed. It’s really very simple.

To the minarchists who try to shun those of us who hate the idea of any state and actively try to keep us out of this movement: I don’t care if you don’t understand that it is the very nature of a state to expand. I don’t care if you don’t understand how incredibly imprudent it is to attempt to adhere to the hopelessly flawed idea of a “limited government.” Just understand that – at least for the time being – we’re fighting the same fight. It’s really very simple.

To the voluntaryists who like to debate about the perceived differences between voluntaryism and anarcho-capitalism: this actually doesn’t really bother me much because it’s generally kept fairly civil and academic. Regardless, it still seems to be a wasted effort at arguing semantics when we believe essentially the same thing. It’s really very simple.

To be fair – to the anarcho-capitalists who refuse to play nice in debates with other people: it doesn’t matter how right we are, we really need to learn better people skills! As much as I hate to admit it, we really do need the average simpleton to agree with at least some of what we say or they’ll just continue to oppress the holy shit out of us through their damned “democracy.” It’s really very simple.

To anyone else I might’ve left out of this: you’re clearly not doing enough in this movement for me to care enough to include you. Do more. Then I’ll be more than happy to tell you what you’re doing wrong!

Personally, I believe the utilitarian view of libertarianism is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to legitimize the state for one’s own gain while vainly grasping at what little is left of their libertarian reputation. I prefer to take the approach of the irrepressible Rothbard and follow William Lloyd Garrison’s approach of:

“Urge immediate abolition as earnestly as we may, it will, alas! be gradual abolition in the end. We have never said that slavery would be overthrown by a single blow; that it ought to be, we shall always contend.”

I believe that many of us share in the belief that no man has any right to lay claim to anything we choose to do (or choose not to do) with our persons or our property (as long as it abides by the non-aggression principle, voluntary arrangements, etc.). In turn, I wholeheartedly believe we share in the obvious realization this implies that we also have no right to lay claim to any other man’s person or property.

It seems to me that there are many parallels and overlaps between minarchists, voluntaryists, anarcho-capitalists, and other libertarians of all stripes. Though I may not agree with you on all points, it seems painfully obvious to me that, at least for the time being, we are pulling in the same direction. We have a common enemy and it is not us. Let us all pull together for as long as we may follow this road and – should we ever come to the proverbial fork in the road – rather than slicing each others’ throats, we ought instead to rejoice in the fact that we’ve made it that far! And THEN let the throat slicing commence!
