| New York State lawmakers voted on Saturday to allow New York City to install cameras to catch speeding motorists near schools.
The measure was one of a slew of bills approved in the middle of the night just before the Legislature ended its annual session. The Senate adjourned about 6:45 a.m. on Saturday after an all-night session; the Assembly finished its work on Friday evening. In this year’s session, lawmakers approved new gun laws in response to the massacre in Newtown, Conn., voted to raise the state’s minimum wage and, on Friday, agreed to ask voters to authorize an expansion of casino gambling. Yet they could not agree on a proposal that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said would strengthen abortion rights in state law, and they did not approve any significant legislation to address the corruption scandals that have plagued the capital.
