| A high school teacher has been found guilty of assault after daring a group of year seven students on the New South Wales central coast to hold dry ice in their bare hands.
The group of Terrigal High students sustained burns to their hands during the incident in their science class last February.
Damien Hilton, 49, has been found guilty of eight counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
In delivering the verdict in a Newcastle court, the magistrate said Hilton was reckless.
She said despite his knowledge of dry ice, he gave the students incorrect information about handling it.
Hilton's lawyer had made an application to have the matter dealt with under section 32 of the Mental Health Act.
