| US gun control advocates, led by gun massacre survivor and former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, have launched a co-ordinated attack on the powerful gun rights lobby, as they seek to continue the national debate on firearms prompted by the Sandy Hook school massacre.

Ms Giffords, the former congresswoman who was shot in the head in the mass shooting that killed six in Tucson, Arizona two years ago, has used the anniversary of that attack to launch a new gun control group, Americans for Responsible Solutions.
I personally don't think there's any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets.
“Forget the boogeyman of big, bad government coming to dispossess you of your firearms. As a Western woman and a Persian Gulf War combat veteran who have exercised our 2nd Amendment rights, we don't want to take away your guns any more than we want to give up the two guns we have locked in a safe at home,” Giffords and her husband, the former astronaut Mark Kelly wrote in an op-ed in USA Today.
