| A bid to deal with a late night skinny-dipper has exposed an interesting conflict between security and privacy.
A Flat Chat reader wrote to us recently saying his Executive Committee wanted to install security cameras over the pool, in the gym and at the entrance to the pool area.
They were claiming was a legal requirement but he suspects it may have something to do with the fact that one residents swims naked late at night.
Easy bits first: there is no legal requirement to film swimming pools or gyms. However, the nude swimmer will be breaking any by-law about being appropriately dressed while on Common Property, not to mention using the pool after hours. Advertisement
Getting down to the nitty gritty, you have that wobbly area between privacy laws and indecent exposure. Who is offended most – the skinny dipper at being watched on video or someone who sees their nude frolics?
