| Subject: Good: Take-Two sues Chicago Transit Authority over pulled ads Tue May 06, 2008 8:12 pm | |
| Controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto IV was to be expected, and the politicians and critics of Rockstar's title certainly delivered. However, Take-Two isn't taken every battering lying down: the removal of ads for the game by the Chicago Transit Authority has spawned a lawsuit.
Accusing the CTA of pulling the ads "without explanation," Take-Two filed suit yesterday, reports Reuters. The case is being pursued as a violation of free speech and contractual rights. Take-Two alleges that the CTA broke an ad campaign agreement worth $300,000. The company is seeking restitution for the cost as well as the reposting of the pulled ads.
In the wake of the sensational Fox News story and the typically-outlandish response of antigaming advocates like Jack Thompson, respondes across the US have included criticism and outright bans. Miami-Dade Transit followed the lead of the Chicago Transit Authority by removing its own GTAIV ads.
There's no word yet on whether Take-Two will follow suit with another lawsuit against MDT, but it's good to see Take-Two standing up for itself. This is an issue that should cause the industry to stand up for itself, and Take-Two appears to be fighting the good fight.
