| THE Premier, Barry O'Farrell, yesterday announced that the NSW Ombudsman, Bruce Barbour, will investigate allegations of wrongdoing by a controversial police internal affairs unit.
The decision was immediately criticised by the Greens MP David Shoebridge, who revealed Mr Barbour had told him last month ''he didn't have sufficient powers'' to do a thorough inquiry.
Mr O'Farrell's announcement follows revelations in The Sun-Herald in recent weeks that the Special Crime and Internal Affairs unit - the so-called ''white knights'' - may have been involved in ''criminal conduct'' during a corruption inquiry it conducted between 1999 and 2001.
