| There are some deep and fundamental problems with out-of-control gathering legislation introduced to State Parliament.
There is no doubt that when these parties go off, our police, neighbours and communities cop it from the partygoers. I have no sympathy for the perpetrators and think the full force of the law should be thrown at them. That is the key point in this matter; throw the law at them, not us.
The case for changing the law is unconvincing and there is no evidence that the WA Police need sweeping new powers.
Events over the last weeks have demonstrated that police can deal with this problem, because at the biggest and baddest party we have seen, offenders were charged, cases will be heard and penalties will be applied. That is how it should be. I reiterate; throw the law at them, not us. Advertisement
This is bad law and it legislates three offensive principles.
