| POLICE are investigating allegations that a senior child protection worker groomed a teenager in her care for a sexual relationship and inappropriately touched the minor while she was in a secure facility for the state's most vulnerable children.
The Department of Human Services is set to investigate the allegations, which date back to 2005 but only emerged in April. The worker, who went on to be a senior child protection manager at Wesley Mission, was stood down on Friday.
According to several sources, the department is understood to be furious with Wesley Mission's handling of an initial complaint from the alleged victim - now a young woman - and the subsequent police investigation.
The alleged victim was never a client of Wesley Mission, but she wrote to the community service organisation in April, claiming their employee had acted unprofessionally by conducting a sexual relationship with her when she left state care and was over 18. The child protection worker denied the relationship was sexual.
