| THE Sydney Pistol Club, from which a mentally ill woman took a pistol she used to kill her father, has failed to have its sport shooting licence reinstated amid concerns it has not acknowledged responsibility for its role in the incident.
The club had instead unfairly tried to shift responsibility to the Firearms Registry, the Administrative Decisions Tribunal found. The tribunal could not be satisfied the club would ensure the safety of its firearms.
Shamin Fernando, 43, of Glebe, had been practising at the range in August 2010 with a pistol borrowed from the club. She took it and used it to shoot her father, Vincent Lalin Fernando, hours later.
She was found not guilty of murder on the grounds of mental illness last year.
