| The political comeback of Newt Gingrich has finally ended in failure but even as he acknowledged the end of his US presidential ambitions, he was still thinking big.
An American moon colony, major investments in brain-science research, defending against an electromagnetic-pulse attack, even fixing a dysfunctional Congress will be part of the Gingrich agenda as a ''citizen'' rather than a presidential candidate.
The former US House speaker from Georgia officially suspended his campaign - which finished more than $4 million in debt - on Wednesday afternoon. By suspending, not ending it, he has the right to continue fund-raising. Thanking supporters for their work, Mr Gingrich pledged to fight for the conservative values and ideals which, on the campaign trail, he had often accused Mitt Romney of failing to represent.
