New Zealand’s famous ‘‘Boobs on Bikes’’ street parade is coming to Canberra – minus the boobs.

The motorbike ride, which features bare-chested men and women has repeatedly sparked controversy in New Zealand, where it is held to promote an event known as the Erotica Lifestyles Expo.

Erotica’s owners are planning to host their first Australian expo in Canberra from the 11th to the 13th of May at EPIC.

They also plan to hold what is officially called a ‘‘Freedom of Expression Ride’’ down Northbourne Avenue on the opening morning.

Erotica spokesman David Crow said organisers had been warned by ACT Police that exposed nipples would not be acceptable during the ride.

‘‘We were told by the Federal Police that technically a guy with his shirt off could be deemed to be offensive behaviour,’’ Mr Crow said.

‘‘There will be no exposed nipples or anything like that, whereas here we can do that because we have a Bill of Rights which says you cannot discriminate on the basis of sex.’’

Mr Crow said he did not want to break ACT laws.

‘‘We don’t want to break the law but we will push the boundaries because that’s what we believe in doing.’’

The expo will feature Australian pornography star Kiki Vidis, New Zealand male strippers Men of Steel and hypnotist Tony Banfield.

Mr Crow said commercial exhibits could include cars, coffee machines, adult toys, lingerie, shoes and massages.

Erotica expos are planned for the Gold Coast and Perth later this year.
