| THE Health Services Union has been suspended from the ACTU, after a vote of the union body's executive in Melbourne today.
President Ged Kearney said the decision -- which was not unanimous -- would send a clear message to the HSU's national managers that it had to come up with a better plan to deal with its serious governance issues.
She said the ACTU was acting in the best interest of members of the union, and its officials because it would force them to clean up the situation. Advertisement: Story continues below
"It is essential that no HSU member should be disadvantaged as a result of this decision," she said.
"The Australian union movement has zero tolerance for corruption or the misuse of members' funds for maladministration of union affairs," Ms Kearney said.
