| The Trade Minister, Craig Emerson, has talked up the potential of Australia's beef trade with Indonesia as strict import quotas imposed by Jakarta continue to punish Australian cattle producers.
Speaking after a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Gita Wirjawan, Mr Emerson imagined the trade potential of the day when Indonesians might eat 20 kilograms of beef a person a year - 10 times current consumption.
But neither Mr Emerson nor Mr Wirjawan could give any comfort to Australian cattle producers now that Indonesia's dramatic cut to Australian imports will not be reversed despite requests to reconsider.
