| FACEBOOK and Twitter could be among the many thousands of sites on the internet regulated by a proposed government-funded media watchdog critics have already written off as unworkable.
Under proposals published last week, the new regulator would have the power to oversee all ''news internet sites'' that get more than 15,000 hits a year, or roughly 40 a day.
Conservative estimates put the number of blogs in Australia that might fall under the auspices of the News Media Council in the thousands, perhaps the tens of thousands.
The scheme was unveiled last week by the Federal Court judge Ray Finkelstein in his report into the regulation of the news media.
