| Subject: Nasdaq OMX Completes All-Asset All-Market Trading Platform Installation Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:27 am | |
| Nasdaq OMX Group said it completed the creation of a trading platform that can carry out transactions in all asset classes, including commodities, across all markets.
The all-asset all-markets platform is now in place at its Nasdaq OMX Nordic markets in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The platform is based on Nasdaq OMX’s Genium INET technology.
Genium is an upgrade of technology known as INET that Nasdaq OMX acquired in 2005 from electronic trading pioneer Instinet.
The changeover in Scandinavia began in 2008. Commodities is the final asset class to be migrated onto the Genium INET platform and includes, the company said, “a wide variety of power derivatives, carbon emission and natural gas derivatives’’ that will be traded alongside stocks, bonds, equities and fixed income derivatives.
Genium INET is used in a variety of exchanges, ranging from the Australian Securities Exchange to the Nasdaq Stock Market.
In its Carteret, N.J., data center facilities, Nasdaq OMX says it already processes roundtrip messages “door to door” from customers’ computing cabinets to its matching engines and back again in under 100 microseconds.
“This marks a true milestone in Nasdaq OMX's history as we complete the pioneering technology roadmap that was initiated in 2008,’’ Hans-Ole Jochumsen, President of Nasdaq OMX Nordic, said. Besides the cross-asset, cross-market trading, “now customers can leverage clearing synergies through our Genium INET clearing platform by using Nasdaq OMX's clearing house for commodities, fixed income and cash derivatives."
Nasdaq OMX said Genium INET can traffic more than 1 million messages per second at sub-80 microsecond speeds with 99.999 percent uptime.
