| Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says she will use next weekend's 2020 summit to push for a national curriculum to be introduced in all Australian schools within the next two years.
Hosting a forum in Brisbane today for 96 Queensland delegates who will take part in Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's summit, Ms Bligh called for immediate action on a national curriculum after years of discussions.
"My view is that we could successfully achieve this nationally by the beginning of the school year in 2010," Ms Bligh told reporters.
"That, I think, is a very ambitious target but it could be done if we all put our shoulder to the wheel."
The premier, who returned from a 13-day trade mission to China, Japan and India only yesterday, called for each state and territory's curriculum authority to be abolished and a national body created by the end of this year.
