| The Australian Sex Party has been excluded from running in next month's Queensland election after it failed to prove it has 500 members in the state.
President Fiona Patten says the Sex Party has 1700 Queensland members but under electoral rules at least 500 must reply to a confirmation letter from the Queensland Electoral Commission as proof of membership.
Only 250 members wrote back, Ms Patten said.
She said the rule was unfair and she believed many members were reluctant to reply to the Queensland government because they own pornography that is illegal in the state.
"It's no wonder that they didn't want to personally communicate with the Queensland government," she said in a statement.
"But that in no way indicates that we do not have a minimum of 500 signed-up members."
