| FINANCIAL compensation for victims of crime should be scrapped, a victims' advocate has said, suggesting the system often harmed them more than the original offence.
Howard Brown, the vice-president of the Victims of Crime Assistance League, said money did not solve the problems of those who had become victims of crime, and sometimes created tension in families.
''A lot of people don't really require financial compensation; they require a recognition that some harm had been done to them,'' he said.
