| Subject: Compulsory PE in Singapore Polytechnic's pilot scheme Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:30 am | |
| Polytechnic freshman Ernest Toh did not expect to have to attend physical-education lessons after he left secondary school.
However, the 17-year-old is now among more than 200 first- and second-year students at Singapore Polytechnic (SP) who are taking compulsory weekly two-hour sports classes under a pilot scheme - and enjoying it.
He signed up for a 'cardiomix' module which involves dance, kickboxing and other cardiovascular exercises.
If the pilot scheme, which offers nine modules at various times, is successful, SP could be the first among the five polytechnics here to have a structured sports and physical-education programme.
