| The government's print media inquiry is considering whether people attacked in the media should have a right to respond to allegations, whether newspapers and their websites should be treated differently from TV news bulletins, and whether the media should be prohibited from publishing "deliberately inaccurate statements".
The inquiry, led by former Federal Court judge Ray Finkelstein and including Matthew Ricketson, professor of journalism at Canberra University, was launched after the phone hacking scandal in Britain.
Greens leader Bob Brown called for a parliamentary inquiry, and the government decided on a more limited inquiry that would feed into the ongoing convergence review of media rules for the digital era.
