The state government will be asked to compensate up to 10 men who say they were the victims of child sex abuse at the hands of their dormitory master while boarding at a state government-run hostel in the 1970s.

Dennis John McKenna, 65, pleaded guilty in the Perth District Court last month to multiple sex abuse offences against six boys at a youth boarding hostel in WA's Great Southern region, between 1977 and 1986.

He also has prior convictions for similar abuses at the hostel and his victims believed there could be hundreds of other men affected, who have yet to speak out.
