| Queensland's anti-corruption watchdog has renewed calls for the tightening of advertising restrictions to prevent illegal brothel operators masquerading as legal businesses.
In a review of the Prostitution Act, tabled in State Parliament today, the Crime and Misconduct Commission found street prostitution offences had decreased from about 800 to 60 per year, since 2004.
However the CMC is chiefly concerned at a lack of advertising restrictions for brothels and individuals offering sex services, an issue it believes was not adequately addressed by the government following its previous review of the act in 2004. Advertisement: Story continues below
The watchdog is pushing for the introduction of legislation against false advertising, "however prostitution is described in the advertisement".
